The International Industry Sector to Meet at the InnoTrans 2020
From 22 to 25 September 2020, the leading trade fair for transport technology InnoTrans will once again have a dedicated area for the segment Tunnel Construction: whether manufacturers of tunnel boring machines, consultants or suppliers of ventilation plants and safety systems – in Hall 5.2 of the Messe Berlin, the industry will present innovations, products and services for the construction and maintenance of tunnels.
Energy Savings through Remanufacturing
At a time of climate change and rising energy prices, climate protection in the construction and operation of tunnels will also be a theme at the InnoTrans. So for example the energy efficiency of tunnel boring machines is becoming more important. The Herrenknecht AG, specialist for mechanised tunnel driving technology and exhibitor at the InnoTrans, is working on the high-quality rebuilding of TBM components – remanufacturing. Parts like drives, erectors, hydraulic cylinders and pumps will be refurbished to be equivalent to new products. Olaf Kortz, manager of the Herrenknecht remanufacturing works in Kehl, said: “the energy savings through remanufacturing are about 80 per cent for a completely refurbished tunnel boring machine. In comparison with a new machine, about 99 per cent less material is used; an enormous saving, which saves resources, lowers CO2 emissions and thus considerably improves the ecological balance of the machine – and thus of the entire project.”
Ultrafine Particles in Tunnels
InnoTrans exhibitor FILTRONtec GmbH on the other hand is working on air quality in tunnels: “underground stations, metro stations and road tunnels show high concentrations of ultrafine particles. Ultrafine particles however enter the lungs and have serious effects on health”, says engineer Gerd Johannemann from FILTRONtec. “We will therefore show our tried and tested units and individual components for the filtering of fine particles at the coming InnoTrans.”
Since the InnoTrans as the leading international event for mobility covers the entire value added chain, the linked segments Tunnel Construction and Railway Infrastructure offer exhibitors and specialist visitors interdisciplinary contact with partners, suppliers and customers – covering new tunnels, the subsequent installation of railway equipment and later maintenance.
