Handeck-Gerstenegg Exploratory Tunnel

Currently the Handeck-Gerstenegg exploratory tunnel is under construction to secure access in winter to the Grimsel 1 and 2 power plants as well as to open up  further “KWO plus” projects for the Oberhasli AG (KWG) at Innertkirchen, one of Switzerland’s leading hydro power companies. The bore, which can be negotiated by lorry, is 3,400 m long, 4.50 m wide and 5.40 m high with a 12 % gradient.
