New Ebensfeld-Erfurt Rail Route: Eierberge and Füllbach Tunnels
The 3,756 m long, twin-track Eierberge Tunnel was broken through at its south portal on August 29, 2011 following 14 months of construction. The tunnel is part of the new and upgraded Leipzig/Halle-Erfurt-Nuremberg route – a German Unity Transport project – 8.2/8.3 – involving a total investment of some 10 b. euros. The tunnel is the longest in the Bavarian section of the project.
