Gotthard Base Tunnel:
Industrial Safety

The 57 km long Gotthard Base Tunnel with its 2 single-track bores and 2 Multi-Function Stations 1/3rd and 2/3rds of the way along the tunnel with emergency stops and crossovers given up to 2,500 m overburden – the world’s longest  rail tunnel after commissioning in 2015 – represents a challenge for tunnellers as well as for industrial safety experts. This report relates to industrial safety measures between the client, the AlpTransit Gotthard AG, the planner and the responsible contractors as well as the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (Suva).
