Second Bore for Gotthard Road Tunnel

After careful scrutiny, the Federal Council has reached the conclusion that the building of a second tunnel bore for the Gotthard Road Tunnel, which requires extensive redevelopment on account of its age, would be the most sensible solution to secure the safety and availability of the Gotthard route. This would also involve developing the existing tunnel – without increasing the overall capacity. The production of a second bore followed by the renovation of the existing one – including keeping it operational during the construction of the second bore – will cost a total of around 2.8 billion...
