In the course of the refurbishment of the Swiss Zuben Tunnel on the Grimsel Pass road near Innertkirchen, the existing chloride-damaged concrete lining of the road tunnel, which was built in the 1960s, was partially broken out, the existing reinforcement was cleaned and replaced where necessary. Furthermore a new waterproofing layer and a new inner lining of fibre-reinforced shotcrete was installed.

The shotcrete is reinforced with synthetic high-performance fibres from the company Brugg Contec in order to ensure a long lifetime. Corrosion of the reinforcement is a problem that definitely...
