Eurotunnel: 4 SAFE Areas set up
The roughly 50 km long Eurotunnel opened in 1994 forms the rail link between Calais in France and Folkestone in the UK, in other words between the continent of Europe and the British Isles. Up to 450 trains pass through the 2 single tunnel track tunnel bores on a daily basis carrying in excess of 16 million passengers per year. This involves goods trains and truck shuttles apart from the high-speed Euro Star and car shuttles.
