An Overview of the Tunnels on the new Wendlingen-Ulm Railway Line
Half of the 60 km long new rail route between Wendlingen and Ulm runs through tunnels. This report provides an overview of the line and its plan approval sections and describes the special challenges presented by the individual tunnels between Wendlingen and Ulm.
Overview
The new Wendlingen-Ulm railway line (NBS) is the longest new section of the new/upgraded rail project Stuttgart-Ulm-Augsburg. The Stuttgart-Ulm rail project is part of the European rail artery running from Paris to Bratislava and involves 3 part-sections:
Section Stuttgart-Wendlingen (Stuttgart 21) involving the revamping of Stuttgart Central Station, the Filderbahnhof at Stuttgart airport, the new rail line from the Airport to Wendlingen and the corresponding access lines,
