The World Tunnel Congress 2024 is right around the corner: It is going to be held from 19 to 25 April at Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, in Shenzhen, China. The congress will encompass the most comprehensive technical content and the largest exhibition in the global tunnelling and underground space sector.

With over 1000 abstracts received from 46 countries, more than 540 full papers submitted, and over 480 papers accepted, the WTC showcases the latest innovations, advanced equipment and materials and insights from significant projects. Spanning three days and featuring 40 technical sessions, it will provide deep insights from leading experts and introduces the newest global innovations. The event so far has drawn 170 world-leading companies from the tunnel industry to participate in the exhibition. As the premier tunnelling nation, Chinese companies exhibit unparalleled enthusiasm for this conference, offering an exceptional opportunity for international participants to engage directly with the local industry.

This year again, the World Tunnel Congress will be hosted as a hybrid event and will offer both in-person and virtual experiences. People who are unable to attend can participate remotely through the convenience of an interactive virtual format. All participants, even those attending in-person, will have access to the digital platform. The access to the platform will be through an application registration.
50th ITA Anniversary
In 2024, the ITA, International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, will also celebrate its 50th Anniversary. The main celebration will take place during the WTC 2024 in Shenzhen. Among around 170 infrastructures proposed by ITA Member Nations and stakeholders, a selection committee is choosing the 50 iconic projects that represent the development of the tunnelling industry during these 5 decades to celebrate the 50th anniversary. A video and a book on the iconic projects are being prepared.
In addition, a booklet with the history of ITA will be realized and a photo contest organized. In Shenzhen a photo exhibition will present the winners of this competition. The video will be presented for the first time during the 50th anniversary celebration, on April 23.. The “50 Iconic Projects” book and the ITA History booklet will be distributed to the Member Nations and other ITA Stakeholders.
