Project Stuttgart–Ulm: The Albaufstieg Tunnels – Construction Methods and contractual Characteristics
Single-track bores over a length of 28.7 km have to be driven for the 3 tunnels for the Albaufstieg. Together with a complex bridge construction, they form the 15.77 km long Albaufstieg of the sophisticated Stuttgart–Ulm major project. This report examines the construction methods and contractual aspects.
The Albaufstieg
The Albaufstieg links the slightly rising Albvorland area with the Alb high plateau. The entire “Albaufstieg” construction section by and large overcomes a height of 326 m in tunnels over a length of 15.77 km. From north west to south east the route first runs in the open as a short ramp with 31 ‰ and over a railway crossing to the portal of the Boßler Tunnel (Fig. 1). The route alignment of the 2 tracks expands to reach a centre distance of 30 m to create 2 single-bore tunnels.
The 8,806 m long Boßler Tunnel rises continuously over almost its entire length with 25 ‰. The entire...
