Brenner Base Tunnel: Tender Launched for Pfons–Brenner Construction Lot
The Brenner Base Tunnel BBT SE has invited tenders for the Pfons–Brenner construction lot (H53) with an estimated contract value of 855 million euros (net) throughout Europe. The contract will be awarded according to the best bidder principle. In addition to the price, qualitative criteria will also be taken into account in the evaluation. The deadline for bids is 16 May 2022, 12 noon.
If the tendering process goes according to plan, the Pfons–Brenner construction lot is expected to be awarded within 2022. The construction period for the services to be carried out is estimated at 69 months.
Reconception of the Pfons–Brenner Section
The construction lot now put out to tender is located between the municipalities of Pfons in the north and Gries am Brenner in the south. With Pfons–Brenner (H53) and Hochstegen (H52), two new, different tunnel construction lots were designed. Both areas originate from the former Pfons–Brenner construction lot (H51). Along with the Sill Gorge-Pfons (H41) construction lot, Pfons–Brenner (H53) is one of the largest sections on Austrian project territory.
The tendered contract includes the excavation of the two main tunnel tubes in the north direction up to the boundary to construction lot H41 as well as in the south direction up to the state border at Brenner. The exploratory tunnel will also be excavated to the state border. A total of approx. 25.2 km of main tunnel tubes are to be excavated, of which approx. 15.2 km are to be excavated mechanically with a tunnel boring machine and approx. 10 km conventionally by drilling and blasting.
In addition, 1.3 km of exploratory tunnels will be excavated. Cross-sections with a total length of about 2.3 km are also being driven. Various works are also being carried out on the inner shell.
Construction Lot Sillschlucht–Pfons Started
Work on the Sill Gorge–Pfons section (H41) officially started in mid-January 2022. The project area is one of the largest construction sections of the Brenner Base Tunnel. The area extends from the Innsbruck Sill Gorge via the Ahrental valley to Steinach am Brenner.
Within the scope of this construction lot, about 22.5 km of main tunnel tubes and 38 cross passages with a total length of about 2.3 km will be excavated. Construction lot H41 will mainly be accessed from the existing access tunnel Ahrental. The construction work is scheduled for a period of 80 months (until summer 2028).
This new lot will be realised by a JV consisting of Implenia Österreich GmbH, Implenia Schweiz AG, Webuild S.p.A, CSC costruzioni SA. The contract is worth 651 million euros.
