DBU Research Project – Participation of the STUVA on the Scientific Advisory Board
A standardised procedure to select construction methods for producing underground infrastructure, which are compatible with resources and the environment, is being developed together with the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU). The ongoing DBU-sponsored research project is captioned “Analysis for the ecological and economic Assessment of open and closed Construction Methods for producing and redeveloping Underground Infrastructure Measures (transport tunnels, supply and disposal lines)”. Generally various construction measures are available in different combinations for accomplishing underground infrastructure projects. An objective assessment to select methods that make the most sense in ecological and economic terms has so far been lacking. The current project is intended to remedy this deficit. The GSTT Beratungsservice GmbH is the research institute involved with the Ruhr University Bochum as partner.
Following the development of an assessment procedure on the basis of a value analysis in phase 1 of the project, which has already been completed, the developed methods will be extended regarding the holistic approach during phase 2. A special advisory board was set up in conjunction with entering project phase 2, on which the STUVA is represented. The advisory board’s activities are designed to ensure that the results of the research work are balanced and suitable for implementation.
