Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link: Tender for Technical Installations over 750 Million Euros
It is planned to operate the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel in the most climate-friendly way possible. Therefore, it is not only supplied with green electricity, but energy-efficient equipment is also used. The aim here is to adapt the tunnel as best as possible to new technologies and the means of transport of the future. With a new tender, Femern A/S is now laying the foundation for this.
Ventilation, lighting or safety systems – the electrical and mechanical installations in the 18 km long Fehmarnbelt Tunnel are among the most important components of this infrastructure project. Femern A/S is now launching the tender procedure for this main contract, which has an estimated volume of 750 million euros. Applications to participate in the tender process can be submitted until 9 March 2021.
Prequalification Phase Starts in 2021
The tender is of great importance, not only in terms of the contract volume. The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel is intended to contribute to the green turnaround in the transport sector, so the electrical and mechanical installations in the tunnel must be as energy-efficient as possible: This means that the tunnel will not only be powered by green electricity, but that this environmentally friendly electricity will also be used as sparingly as possible.
The tender includes the supply as well as installation of the systems and equipment. The pre-qualification phase will start this year, and the contract is expected to be awarded at the end of 2022.
Construction of the working harbour near Rødbyhavn has been underway since mid-2020. At the turn of the year, the starting signal was given for the factory where the elements of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel will be manufactured. It is planned to open the tunnel in 2029. It will consist of a four-lane motorway and a two-track railway line.
