Dieter Schwank will be the new AlpTransit Gotthard AG Chairman
The Administrative Council of the AlpTransit Gotthard AG (ATG) elected Dieter Schwank as its new board chairman in mid-February 2017. Currently Dieter Schwank is in charge of the department for legal matters. On July 1, 2017, he will take over the duties of CEO in addition to his present responsibilities. He will thus succeed Renzo Simoni and will be directly responsible to the Administrative Council in this function.
The ATG is responsible for the building of the NRLA Gotthard axis with the Gotthard and Ceneri Base Tunnels. Set up in 1998, the SBB subsidiary employs a workforce of around 140 at its Lucerne headquarters and its branches at Altdorf, Sedrun and Bellinzona. Schwank, a 56-year old lawyer, has been in charge of the ATG’s legal division since May 2009. His selection as CEO is intended to ensure continuity in leadership: “We’re convinced that we’ve found an optimal solution with Dieter Schwank with regard to completing the flat trajectory railway through the Alps,” the head of the Administrative Council, Werner Marti, was quoted as saying.
Renzo Simoni announced at the end of 2016 that he was stepping down as CEO. He has been chairman of the AlpTransit Gotthard board since April 2007. Under his guidance, construction costs stabilised and the timetable leading up to the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel on June 1, 2016, was adhered to.
