IUT ’11 with Seminar on Tunnel Redevelopment and Renovation
On the occasion of the IUT ’11 Underground Fair from September 14 to 15, 2011, an accompanying seminar on “Tunnel Redevelopment and Renovation” will take place. The seminar involving internationally recognised tunnelling experts starts on Wednesday, September 14 and ends on Wednesday, September 15, 2011. The seminar is to be chaired by Dr.-Ing. Roland Leucker, Research Association for Underground Transportation Facilities (STUVA, Cologne/D. Participation at the seminar can be easily combined with a visit to the Underground Fair. It is especially worthwhile attending the get-together at the Fair, the IUT Evening, on September 14, 2011. This affords a great deal of scope for exchanging views with colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere amidst the ambience of the Hagerbach Test Gallery.
The seminar is divided into “Rail” and “Road” sections. On Wednesday, September 14, 2011, topics such as “SBB Tunnel Maintenance/Renovation” by Dipl.-Ing. ETA/SIA Jan Dirk Chabot from Switzerland, the “State of the Art for the Application of Tunnel Enlargement Machines” by Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Heisterkamp and Dipl.-Ing. Josef Heßling from Germany, the”Redevelopment of the Arlberg Railway Tunnel” by Dipl.-Ing. Josef Koinig from Austria and the “Measures to save Energy for Redeveloping Underground Railway Systems” by Dipl.-Ing. Frank Steinhorst from Germany are foreseen.
On Thursday, September 15, 2011, the seminar continues with the section devoted to “Road”. The forenoon starts with a paper relating to “Tunnel Retrofitting and Repair in Germany – Examples taken from Practice” by Dipl.-Ing. Wolf-Dieter Friebel, Dr.-Ing. Frank Heimbecher and Dr.-Ing. Klaus Seeger from Germany. This is followed by a paper on “Chances, Risks and Cost Efficiency in Modernising Road Tunnels” by Dr. Rune Brandt from Switzerland. Klaus Eismann from Germany examines the “Operational technical Aspects involved in Redeveloping and Renovating Tunnels”. And finally Prof. Christian Bartenbach from Austria presents “Light in the Tunnel: Improving Traffic Safety and Possibilities to save Energy by means of new Technologies”.
