The package, valued by the Victorian government at 3.6 billion Australian dollars (2.2 billion euros), in which CIMIC subsidiary CPB Contractors has a 40 percent stake, includes the construction of a 16 km section of the project's 26 km twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley as well as two new underground stations. Tunnel construction work with four TBMs is expected to begin in 2026.
A second SRL contract for the tunnels between Glen Waverley and Box Hill will be awarded in 2024. The entire route is scheduled to go into operation in 2035 at the earliest.
