2nd Munich S-Bahn Main Line: Construction Progress on the West Tunnel and at the Central Station

The work of the joint venture ARGE Tunnel Hauptbahn­hof (ATH) is progressing. The launch shaft for the tunnel boring machines in front of Donnersberg Bridge was completed in summer 2024, work on the RS 3 rescue shaft is in full swing and level E-4 at the main station is being excavated since October 2024. Following the introduction of the 2nd S-Bahn main line in tunnel 2/2023 and the ATH consortium in tunnel 5/2023, this article provides an up-to-date overview of the progress of the work in the west and at the central station.

In April 2024, tunnel construction for the 2nd S-Bahn main line began with a symbolic start at the up to 34 m deep RS3 rescue shaft in Munich‘s Arnulfpark. ARGE ATH made the following progress in the various construction phases.
