Tunnelling and Underground Works in Hungary
The following article from the organizing Hungarian Tunnelling Association welcomes the participants at the ITA-AITES World Tunnel Congress 2009 in Budapest. It shows which projects in Hungary are the most interesting ones at the moment.
Welcome dear participants to the ITA-AITES World Tunnel Congress 2009, dear professional readers and colleagues. Part of it entails paying a visit to the Hungarian Republic, which is situated in Central Europe.
Hungary is basically flat and thus perhaps not geologically interesting. Young clastic sediments, deposited by lakes and rivers, are not karstified. Carbonate rocks found in caves cover only 1.5 % of the country’s surface. Some of them are located in Northern Hungary, near the Slovakian border, which forms part of the Carpathian Mountains; some are also located in other areas such as...
